Wireless burglar alarm queries?
I am after installing a burglar alarm in my house, the house is currently going through restoration so I was going to install a wired system in the house until someone at work mentioned wireless systems. This would obviously save the hassle of cable chasing etc.
I was wondering, are these systems reliable or are they susceptable to false alarms from interference (wireless networks/ key fobs etc)?
What connections are required? I know the sensors are wireless but am I right in thinking you require a 240v supply to the control panel and sounder?
If any of you have had any experience with wireless systems, of if you know any good websites it would be greatly appreciated.

The only deal is changing the batteries as far as maintenance is concerned

They have a wide variety, I personally like the option on some systems that allow for either monitored or call or page you options – monitored systems are expensive and pointless but will save on home insurance
Mainly, I would look for door coverage and lots of motion detection with both indoor and outdoor audio and visual sirens, the main thing is a deterrent system and that the intruder just leave, not to catch anyone
If you go wireless, do not go cheap! Wireless systems can work well or not at all. I would reccomend going with a big name and comparing several systems. The control panel will need 120V (240 if you’re in europe). The devices will need some type of batteries. The sounder may be 120/240 or 12/24V. GE Interlogix makes wireless security products. Tyco/Simplex-Grinnell May also be a manufacturer you want to try.
All wireless systems can be intercepted, decoded and remotely disabled by anyone with a good enough knowledge of how these work. My advice is go for the hard wired system.
Ensure you have a dual back up alarm so that it cannot be attacked by in line contacts by anything less than two extremely competant burglars – then you have a very good chance.
